Petite Sirah is described as big, bold and beautiful and makes a big statement on the palate. It is a flavorful, dry red wine. The wine is a rich deep purple, one of the darkest red wines in the world with high acidity and tannin level. The flavors of plum and blueberry mingles with hints of dark chocolate, licorice, mocha and pepper.
This is another variety that is influenced by the terroir. In warm climate, it has a rich blackberry jam flavor, while in cooler climate, it presents with a more earthy, citrus flavor. A bottle of 100% Petite Sirah is difficult to find because it is highly sought after to use in blends. The lucky few that are fortunate to savor a glass of 100% Petite Sirah with its bold flavors accompanied with food are worth celebrating.
It pairs well with beef, lamb, chicken, spicy Asian, Mexican and Italian dishes, as well as Mediterranean flavors. It goes well with vegetable dishes such as mushroom and stuffed peppers as well as soft cheeses such as Brie, Mozzarella and Gouda.
